CQC REGISTRATION, SUPPORT AND TRAINING

We streamline your CQC registration and compliance journey

Let's Partner with you to achieve a successful CQC registration.

If you’re a health or social care provider in England offering regulated activities, you’re likely required to register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). CQC registration is essential for a range of services, including domiciliary care agencies, hospitals, care homes, residential and nursing homes, dental practices, clinics, supported living services, non-emergency transport, and ambulance services. However, some activities may not require registration, so it’s important to understand your specific obligations.

So how do We Support CQC Registration

We offer comprehensive support for CQC registration for Supported Living and Domiciliary Care Agencies in England, RQIA for Northern Ireland, Care Inspectorate for Scotland, Healthcare Inspectorate for Wales and Wales. Our services include seamless registration assistance for various care providers, such as:

CQC PROCESS LOCATION

Understanding Location Requirements for CQC Registration

A “location” refers to the specific premises where a regulated activity is provided. This can be a facility where individuals are admitted to receive care or treatment, a residential setting where people live and are supported, or a branch of an agency delivering care. Importantly, a location is not the private residence of a service user, but rather the official site where the regulated activity is legally managed and conducted.

When registering with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), it’s essential that your chosen location meets all necessary standards. CQC may deny an application if the premises are deemed inadequate—for instance, if records are not stored securely, potentially compromising the safety and privacy of service users.

You can use a privately owned property as a registered location, provided you adhere to CQC requirements for secure record-keeping and other compliance criteria.

The Role of a Nominated Individual in CQC-Registered Care Services

Every CQC-registered care provider is required to appoint a Nominated Individual—the main point of contact with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This individual oversees the regulated activities within the service and can also serve as the Registered Manager, if appropriate.

The Nominated Individual plays a critical role in ensuring that the service meets and upholds CQC standards. Their responsibilities include:

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrating a thorough understanding of CQC standards, regulations, and best practices in the health and social care sector.
  • Leadership and Development: Committing to ongoing personal and professional growth to effectively lead the service and support the Registered Manager.
  • Quality Assurance: Focusing on delivering a high standard of care by fostering a culture of continuous improvement and quality.
  • Safe Staffing: Ensuring the service is adequately staffed with trained professionals to meet the needs of the people in their care.
  • Relationship Building: Developing and maintaining external relationships, including networking with other Nominated Individuals to share knowledge and best practices.
  • Cultural Leadership: Shaping a positive, excellence-driven culture within the organization, championing high standards in every aspect of care delivery.

By appointing a well-qualified Nominated Individual, care providers can ensure robust compliance, drive quality improvements, and maintain a trusted partnership with the CQC.

Becoming a Registered Manager: Essential Qualifications and Requirements

For those aspiring to become a Registered Manager, the recommended qualification are:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care
  • NVQ Level 4/5 in Leadership and Management in Health and Care Services
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care
  • Degree or master’s degree in nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or other related social care courses.

This qualification provides the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to lead and manage a high-quality care service.

As part of the CQC registration process, you will need to meet several key requirements:

  • Interviews and Assessment: Applicants will undergo an interview process where they must demonstrate their understanding of care standards and answer relevant questions.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks: A completed DBS check, countersigned by the CQC, is mandatory before submitting your application.
  • Supporting Documentation: Written proof of all relevant qualifications and completed training must be submitted as part of the application package.

Please note that CQC approval is not guaranteed. To strengthen your application, ensure you have:

  • Relevant qualifications in adult care leadership and management.
  • Current training in areas essential to care management, including safeguarding, complaints handling, medication management, consent, mental capacity, health and safety, and human resources.

By fulfilling these requirements, you position yourself as a qualified and capable candidate for the role of Registered Manager, ready to lead a compliant and high-quality care service.

The following are what CQC will use to assess any application

  • CQC Registration Form
  • Business plan
  • Statement of financial viability from an accredited financial specialist
  • Policies and Procedures
  • Statement of purpose

Registered Manager and Nominated Individual are expected to show how they are fit and proper to run the service they propose to set up.
